Woodinville Founder's Find Aged 12 Years Whiskey from a Bourbon Mash
Distillery: Woodinville Whiskey Co.
107 proof
Woodinville Founder's Find is a special limited release celebrating the distillery's early distilling days. Distilled in 2012, this whiskey was crafted from a traditional bourbon mash bill but aged in used barrels, classifying it legally as a 'Whiskey from a Bourbon Mash' rather than a straight bourbon. It was aged for 12 years in Woodinville's barrel houses, allowing the spirit to develop a deep complexity, rich oak character, and smooth profile without the heavy charred-oak dominance of new barrels. Bottled at a robust 107 proof, it offers a rare glimpse into the distillery's matured stocks.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Rich caramel, vanilla bean, toasted oak, and a hint of dark dried fruits. Palate: Smooth and velvety with notes of honey, brown sugar, baking spices, and gentle oak tannins. Finish: Long, warm, and lingering with sweet spice and mellow wood notes.
Reviews
Allocated $130 release; solid but doesn't wow. Skip for most millennials chasing allocated hype—perfectly fine daily sipper but not a must-buy at the price.
Nose: caramel, seasoned oak, honey, cinnamon, charred toffee, leather. Palate: dessert pastry, cinnamon bun, vanilla custard, dark chocolate, oak. Finish: allspice, caramel, aged leather, brown sugar, lingering spice, drying oak, tobacco. Oak-forward, sweet but muted/one-dimensional.
