Everclear 190 Grain Alcohol
Distillery: MGP Ingredients (formerly Luxco)
190 proof
Everclear 190 is a high-proof neutral grain spirit produced through a multi-step distillation process using grain mash, resulting in an almost pure ethanol content. It is colorless, odorless, and flavorless, designed primarily as a base for homemade liqueurs, infusions, and extracts rather than for straight consumption. Unlike aged spirits, it undergoes no barrel aging, emphasizing its role as a versatile, potent neutral alcohol. Introduced in the 1970s by Luxco (now part of MGP Ingredients), it is one of the strongest consumer-available alcohols in the US, though banned or restricted in some states due to its potency. It is filtered to remove impurities, ensuring clarity and neutrality.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Neutral, minimal to no aroma beyond faint alcohol vapors.
Palate: Pure ethanol burn, no flavor profile due to neutrality.
Finish: Intense, short alcohol heat with no lingering notes.
Reviews
Skip neat—it's novelty liquid fire best for infusions, limoncello, or high-ABV mixes. Cheap and available where legal, but not for sipping. Worth it only as a base, not a drink.
Strong antiseptic alcohol nose with subtle sweetness and grain. Palate starts sweet (bubblegum, toffee, citrus) but quickly turns hot, astringent, burning, with raw grain and metallic notes. Finish is salted caramel, vegetal, drying.
