Vieux Carré recipe

The Vieux Carré is a New Orleans cocktail of rye, cognac, sweet vermouth, and Benedictine. It tastes like a rich Manhattan.

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz Rye whiskey
  • 0.75 oz Cognac
  • 0.75 oz Sweet vermouth
  • 1 bar spoon Benedictine
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Method

  1. Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass. Fill it with ice.
  2. Stir for 30 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  4. Express a lemon peel over the drink. Drop it in or add a cherry.

Tips

  • Keep the parts equal. Change one bottle at a time to learn what each does.
  • Serve it up in a coupe if you want it without ice.
